Dictionary.com offers six registration-free and fun word games. The two games are Miss Spell's Class and Word Kingdom. In Miss Spell's Class students are presented with twenty commonly misspelled words and quickly decide if the spelling they're looking at is correct or incorrect. Word Kingdom could be described as Zelda meets word search. In Word Kingdom players have to construct words in order to earn objects like wood and gold. Once enough objects are earned players can move on to the next level until they have built their Word Kingdoms.
Digital Public Library of America is a huge collection of digitized artifacts and exhibits from museums and libraries across the United States. Through the DPLA you can find documents, books, images, audio recordings, and video clips. The DPLA is a new resource and only some of the artifacts are arranged into exhibits at this point. You can look for artifacts by location, time, or keyword search.
ExamTime is a service that middle school, high school, and college students can use to prepare for tests. I When students signs into their ExamTime accounts they can create flashcards, mind maps, and practice quizzes to help them study. Students can arrange their materials into topics. All materials can be shared with other Examtime users.

I Need A Pencil is a free SAT preparation service provided by the CK-12 Foundation. The service provides students with 60 lessons and more than 800 SAT practice problems in math, writing, and critical reading. The lessons are based on questions that students typically encounter on the SAT. To track their own progress students can mark lessons as complete or as lessons to review again. After completing lessons students can jump to practice questions. Students can work through questions in the random mode or they can choose to only work with questions from one subject. To help students have a sense of how they might score on the SAT, I Need A Pencil tracks the questions that they have answered and projects a score based on practice problem answers.

On the site you can search for educational games by grade level, age, and subject area. Spree Games provides a short overview of each game's purpose.
Type Rocket is a free typing game from ABCya. Type Rocket is a sixty second game in which students make fireworks explode by typing the letters that appear on the rockets in the games. In the sixty second span of the game students try to correctly type as many letters as they possibly can. The rockets speed up as the game progresses.
Typing Adventure is a nice little game that young students can use to practice their typing skills. To play the game students just have to visit the game site, read the directions, and press start. The game scenario presented to students is a character leaping from stepping stone to stepping stone. To move along the path students have to type the letters of the stones they want to jump to. Students earn points based on speed and accuracy.

The typing games are a mix of simple sentence typing for speed and games that require accuracy to "defend" a character or move a character through a scene.
ZType is a simple typing game. To play Z-Type all that you have to do is go to the website and type the words that are falling from the top of the screen. When you have correctly typed a word a laser shoots it. The object is to shoot the words before they reach the bottom of the screen.
